Spiced Caramel and Oat Slice

This recipe was inspired by a caramel anzac slice that is sold at the cafe where I work. I love the concept of mashing together two classic treats into one mouthwatering bite. Instead of using a traditional anzac biscuit for the base, I've used honey and oats to compliment the flavours in the caramel. 

Ingredients: 
Base: 
200g butter
2 tablespoons honey
3/4 Cup brown sugar
2 Cups plain flour
2 Cups rolled oats
1Cup desiccated coconut

Caramel: 
2 cans sweetened condensed milk 
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon gewurzhaus apple cake spice

Topping: 
100g dark chocolate
pinch sea salt

Method: 

Preheat oven to 160 degrees, line a square 25 by 25cm baking dish and another baking trayMelt the butter and honey together over a low heatMix the sugar, flour, oats and coconut together in a large bowl, before pouring in the butter mixture, and mixing wellPress three quarters of the mixture into the baking dish, and pop in the oven for 15 minutes. sprinkle the remai…
